Wilderness Rescue & Survival Training
Presented by STAT MedEvac, Allegheny Mountain Rescue Group, & Ambulance and Chair EMS
April 20, 2024
This one-day long (8-hours) training will introduce Search and Rescue, Survival, and Wilderness patient care skills, with both classroom and field, focused on backwoods search, rescue, and downed helicopter incidents. This training is for members of fire, rescue, and EMS services who may be involved in missing person or downed aircraft incident responses. No prior experience is needed. You will learn about what to expect at a large search incident and how to work with SAR and helicopter teams.
Topics covered include:
- Seach techniques
- Treating patients in a wilderness setting
- Patient packaging and semi-tech rescue
- Working with search dogs
- Survival shelter building
- Map, compass, and GPS navigation
- How to setup a helicopter landing zone
- The opportunity to get up close to some STAT MedEvac helicopters
Prerequisite: Physical ability to work in rough terrain in various weather conditions
Student Needs: Be a member of a fire, rescue, or other emergency services department. Work gloves, long-sleeve shirt, long pants (military pants, tactical pants or jeans), leather work or hiking boots, rain coat, compass, GPS if you have one, and water. Dress accordingly for outside evolutions.
Con-Ed: Applied for to obtain as many CPC hours as possible
What's included:
- Classroom and field instruction provide by STAT MedEvac, AMRG, and Ambulance and Chair personnel
- Meals will be provided by STAT MedEvac
